W.P.C.A. 5 of March 2019
WE are welcomed by the sound of peaceful Kaikaranga and Miss Ireland answered back. When we got in to the Marae we sang a waiata and a man named David gave a gift to the people in the Marae.
After we went through the powhiri we had to hongi the elders of the Marae. We sat down on the floor and they went through the rules.
At morning tea a table was filled with pies and savouries and red velvet cake. My table was the first to go up and we were allowed to take four things at a time. Firstly I took two sausage rolls, one pie and a piece of red velvet cake. I did not stay the night but I came back the next day to do a walk.
A day later we went for a walk to Lake Mahinapua. We walked to a spot were there was a BIG fight between the Māori tribes. Apparently some great chief of a tribe drowned there. When we got back to the car park we started the not so short drive back to school.
