On Friday 2018 22.6.18 we were allowed to cook something different and My group made mini pizza. In my group was Alex, Lincon, Rhys, and me and we made 12 pizzas in total.

Purpose of this reading activity is to: increase our knowledge of space
exploration and understand how our knowledge and ideas about space have

changed over time (science). We are also learning to read non-fiction texts
and use our writing skills to share our understanding of this topic and our ideas
(literacy). Throughout this task we will need to use the skills of ‘Thinking’ and
using ‘Language, Symbols and Text.’

Focus

We are looking at using non-fiction text to increase our knowledge in our science topic; SPACE. Your
aim is to read and understand the timeline reading and use this knowledge to complete the reading
activity below.

Second, We will discuss what you have read. This will be a good time to ask questions about anything
you are unsure of.

Third, do your reading tasks.

Fourth, complete your reading activity. Remember to proofread, check spelling and punctuation.
Then do a self assessment and a peer assessment. Check it with a teacher.

Reading Activity

View and read the space timeline on the classroom walls. Think about how
how our theories/ideas and understandings about the universe and Earth’s
place in it has changed over time.

1. Who do you think made the biggest contribution to our understanding of

I think that the biggest contribution was Galileo because he did an extreme job
to find the the moons of jupiter, and lunar crater on venus and he made the first
telescope. That’s why I think it was Galileo who was the most important
scientist.

   

2) What do you think was the most important machine or invention in helping
us investigate space? Why? (summarising key ideas) I think the most
important machtine or invention for space was the space station because
people can go into space in it and take pictures and study. They can also
go out into space and give us info. That's why I think that the space station
was the most important.

    3) What would you like to investigate about space? Why?

I think I would like to investigate the planets because they are interesting.
There also could be other planets to discover. That's why  I would like to
investigate the planets.

Focus

We are continuing to look at descriptive writing. This week you are writing a descriptive piece of writing
to promote your imaginary planet. You aim is to convince people to move to your planet. You want your
writing to allow the reader to be able to imagine what it is like on your planet.

First, we will look at an excerpt of a video describing the moon from the Avatar movie.

Second, we will discuss together what you will need in your work to make it successful and look at how
to plan our work. Then you will plan your work and check with a teacher before you start writing.

Third, do your piece of writing.

Fourth, complete you piece of writing. Remember to proofread (check spelling and punctuation) and edit
(does it make sense? do you need to change any sentences?) yourself and with a buddy and fill in your
self and peer-assessment. Check it with a teacher.

My Writing.

Planet Web Wood is a planet of vast danger such as rook falls, ground that gives way
and the bush Lawyer (bush lawyer is a tough vine that has lot of prickles and it wraps
around you and shreds your skin). It is in the Wind Wave Galaxy. The planet is
surprisingly a meteor that crashed in to a faraway marama(moon) that was orbiting a
ghost planet.  When this meteor crashed into this marama it then became a planet and
it bounced back in to the maramas magnetic force. Since then this marama swapped
planets and rotated around planet Web Wood.

Web Wood takes nine to ten years to get to  depending on its rotation. To get there you

can only go on the one and only Earth Star which is like a mini earth. It can carry up
to 94 people and lots of furniture and food. The spaceship is like a nui(big) lounge .
The spaceship is as nui  as Karoro School. It feels like 3 hours when you travel to the

planet in the space ship because of its speed. This space ship warps your sense of time.

Web Wood is made up of vast landscapes such as tropical rainforest, deserts, and lakes.

Beside its danger there is beauty such as  the 6 animal species like the silk skinned dog,
horned monkey, winged dust beetle, triple headed sea snake, headless eels, sky birds. It
also has other things like the extensive water flows. Despite the Acra people and the
sea creatures  all animals are six legged.

The Acra people are the native people to this planet. They use the horned Monkeys and
the silk skinned dog to hunt but it is dangerous because they can get attacked by other

animals such as the sky birds. The Acra hunt with a double sided spear, and a bone
carved bow and arrow. The humans are probably the only people that the Acra people
can interact with.

Beside its danger and beauty there is lots of minerals there. The planet is mined by
humans to take back to earth for furniture and building structures.

Cooking 2018

On Friday 2018 8.6.18 we did cooking. We made chocolate sponge. In my group was Nathan.k, Lincon, and Alex. After we made it, and that took a long time, it went in the oven. After we put it on our blog as a new post we went to do our dishes. 

Here is a photo.    We worked well. It smelt good as it was cooking .

My hands.

My hands, my hands, not too tanned. You steer my bike to school. You let me glide through the water like a dolphin after its dive. You help me turn pages  in a book. You feel the beautiful New Zealand ferns . You hands feel the soft sand on the beach. You are strong enough. Even though you are small, I still like you all.
